I,ve have had my brother Savage head apart several times and noticed that with excessive wear the exhast rocker arm touches the decompresion arm when the valve is closed making a ticking sound!Poor design if you ask me.I believe the only way to cure it is totally new parts. By the way when I say excessive wera I mean my brothers bike only had 9000 miles on it!
